Here’s a gift for that do-it-yourself friend of yours. It’s, quite simply, a food dehydrator. Use it to make jerky, trail mix, dried fruit snacks, even potpourri by sticking a few flowers in it. It’s powered by a 240 watt engine, low-medium-high settings, and is pretty much idiot proof. Get this though: it comes with a “fruit roll up” accessory that allows you to dehydrate fruit in a flattened sheet and make a nice homemade fruit roll up. The chic way to say these days is “fruit leather” but we don’t want you to get confused into thinking you can use it reline your car interior. That would be too sticky I think.
Someone seriously interested in this sort of thing as a money-saver would have to calculate the cost of dried fruit versus fresh fruit (dried is much more expensive by weight) and then offset the costs of running a 240 watt appliance for several hours, which is the amount of time it takes to dry a fully stocked dehydrator.
The motor has a 5-year warranty, so this will last you quite a bit of time without replacement costs. Though, my favorite part of the product description is this: “A smart way to process wild game from hunting trips…” Ah hah! I wonder how many dehydrators you’d need to finish off a deer. I’ll have my men get on it pronto.
