The Victorian era is named after the period of Queen Victoria’s rule in the United Kingdom between 1837 and 1901. This era was characterized, amongst other things, by an astonishing prosperity in the fields of art and culture. Victorian art is still considered very popular today, and many contemporary artist still express Victorian ideas in their works. Michal David is one of those artists, whose works sometimes appear as if they were virtually created in the 19th century. This In The Garden Jewelry Chest is one of those pieces that display clear Victorian influences, with the wonderful print showing three women in a Victorian style romantic scene (seen on the left). I really love jewelry boxes that seem like they’ve been taken away from another time. They tell a story that happened long ago, in a distant and beautiful place.
