The mystical properties of crystals have been extolled widely for many centuries and each culture has its own beliefs surrounding them. Crystals and gemstones have been used for jewelry, healing and metaphysical uses since man first discovered how to mine them, and they are still as sought-after today as they were long ago by the ancient Egyptians. Their aesthetic properties account most strongly for their popularity.

However, the benefits of wearing crystals go much further than the aesthetic value. As I mentioned, it is widely believed that crystals have healing and talismanic properties as well as important powers in divination and chakra balancing. When placed along the body’s chakra lines, crystals can cleanse, balance and energize to strengthen both mind and body.

Archaeologists discovered that crystals were used for these purposes in ancient times, on most continents. Some examples are the ancient Egyptians, The Aztecs and the Incas. These are just a few examples.

The word crystal means ‘clear ice’. It comes from the Greek word ‘crystallos’. According to ancient mythology, water once fell from the sky and was frozen by the gods. Hercules, famous for his strength, dropped the Crystal of Truth from Mount Olympus. Other ancient cultures thought that crystals were frozen light and the Aborigines of Australia thought that this light contained the Great Spirit.
