Anklet jewelry, or Ankle Bracelet jewelry, have been around for centuries, and in fact are one of the oldest jewelry accessory items worn by both men and women. Dating back at least 3,000 years, anklet jewelry chains and bangles, often made of gold, silver, and other metals, have been found in ancient Egyptian, Babylonian and Chinese tombs, and appear to have been as fashionable back then as they are today. In countries like India, even today, the anklets are worn by women as part of her wedding trousseau, and the wealth of her husband and his love for his beloved is often shown in the number, and value of the anklet’s he gives to his bride.
In Western cultures, the anklet is more of a fad or pop culture piece of jewelry and is often worn by young (and not so young women) as an accessory item, especially during the summer months. Because anklets are so popular during the summer, when those wearing them are either dressed in casual summer garb or in swimsuits around the pool or at the beach, the seductiveness of this type of jewelry is often more in with current fashion trends than are tattoos (you can remove an anklet chain any time you want – a tattoo is there for life).
You don’t have to be an Indian Maharaja or high tech guru to be able the afford purchasing anklet chains as they come in all prices, from just a few dollars to thousands – if the chain happens to have diamonds or other precious stones attached. Those believing in charms against bad fortune (like hamsa, lucky horseshoe, or clover charms for example) often have these attached, like part of a charm bracelet – which an anklet chain often is: a “charm bracelet” for the leg. Red string Kaballah threads are also often seen being worn as anklets; and many of these have hamsas, Chai, Stars of David, and other charms attached.
