The beloved former presidential cat “Socks” passed away this last weekend. Socks, born in 1989, was a stray cat until his adoption by Chelsea Clinton, back when her father was still governor of Arkansas. Ever since the Clintons left the White House in 2001, Socks had been living with Bill Clinton’s former presidential secretary Betty Currie. Sadly, he was fighting cancer for some months before being euthanized this Friday.
Hillary Clinton even wrote a book about Socks, titled “Dear Socks, Dear Buddy: Kids’ Letters to the First Pets”.
As a passionate cat lover, I am very sad to hear this beautiful and funny-looking cat is now dead. Nevertheless, he had had long 19 years among a loving family, which is much longer than the average 3-years lifespan of a stray cat.
Dear Clintons, my condolences are with you.
