Talk about a unique gift idea: A new personalized gift site allows a user to cut steel sheets with a flame and have the resulting sculpture delivered to his home or office. Delivery takes about a week.
The site, GiveAPP, has the steel cut within a hundredth of an inch of accuracy, and each thing they sell is personalized.
Small, thoughtful things like bookholders, keychains, candleholders, coat hooks. I’d describe it best as “quaint.” I can’t help but be reminded of the shape-shifting bad guy from Terminator II, who was also made of metal but could only transform into sharp metal objects with no moving parts. It’s the same here. They’re not going to make you some complicated piece of machinery, but when you’re looking for something small and simple, these are the guys to go to.
Products under development include tables, benches, weather vanes, fireplace utensils, and hold’em poker card markers. I’ve never played the game, but I’m assuming that for those who do, it would be a good gift. I’ll stick to solitaire and rummy.
My personal favorite – the trivet. Though my name is not Wellington, I sure do know of a certain Napoleon-defeating Duke who’s name happens to be just that. Maybe I’ll give it to his family as a holiday gift.
Each product is powder coated or “hot dip galvanized” which is fancy talk for some kind of rust prevention. How do they cut the steel? Listen to this violent sounding description: Mganetically charged gas particles burning at 10,000F.
It’s a good thing it cools off first before they ship it to you. Otherwise they’d be in lawsuits up to their eyebrows and they wouldn’t be in business anymore. We support the cooling of blindingly hot steel.
